The use of much smaller satellites for Imaging of the Earth is a major disruptive trend in the space industry, resulting in a lower cost of entry into the satellite business, which not so long ago was dominated by governments and major, established space companies.

This move towards smaller satellites is creating demand for commercial launchers which are designed specifically for smaller payloads. A British company, SpaceLS, is developing such a commercial launcher and is taking an innovative approach to development that involves using several components provided by partners without charge in return for publicity for their technologies.
