TerraSAR-X (also known as TSX) is a high resolution X-band Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellite which was launched on June 15, 2007 and has been predicted to remain operational until 2018. The satellite has three main imaging modes: ScanSAR, StripMap and SpotLight, which have the capability to record the earth in a spatial resolution down to 0.25m every 11 days.
This satellite has been used for a multitude of applications in the fields of hydrology, geology, climatology, the environment and disaster monitoring. The data obtained has directly helped to understand some of the volcanoes in Iceland.
